Race Gnome (Everquest 2 Mods)
December 28th, 2006Traditionally literary "magical" Gnomes were originally thought to be merely a fictitious creation of Fantasy writers. However, recently in Indonesia archaeologists uncovered the skeletons of a number of gnomes, thereby making me a firm believer in their existence as a race. Indonesia used to be a land of thousands of gnomes running about blasting helpless rabbits from a distance with arcane magic and skinning their svelte bodies with magically fashioned blades. Out of these pelts they fashioned intricate clothing which allowed them to keep warm in the chilly nights in the higher elevations of Indonesia. They are also credited with inventing the Microwave.
For those wishing to learn more about the Indonesian gnomes, just check out this link:

MSNBC foolishly state the Gnomes of Indonesia resembled hobbits, but if you are a fantasy expert it clearly becomes evident this long lost race was in fact more Gnomelike, not Hobbitlike……so please ignore their ill-informed banter.
Oh oh, yes this tutorial is about the Gnomes inhabiting the virtual world of EQ2. The Gnomes of EQ2 are very similar to the race I mentioned above (with the exception of creating the Microwave), they are extremely creative and curious creatures by nature, fashioning great mechanical objects out of physical construction with a strong touch of magic. They can easily huge objects of destruction, or tiny imbued pieces of jewelry with their wide range of skills. Do not be surprised in the least if Gnomes, along with the Dwarven race are the prominent Artisans in the realms of EQ2.
This culture or creativity is deeply embedded in Gnomish society, and has been passed down from generation to generation. A major drawback (or a major plus for people like myself) are gnomes are tiny odd looking creatures with little physical strength. If you go head to head with a Grizzly bear in the wilds of the Island of Refuge, you can be assured your Gnome will be taking a dirt nap rather quickly. Instead Gnomes utilize their magical abilities from afar, and typically become Mages or Priests in the realm of EQ2.
If you don't wish to go the 100% magician route, take advantage of the tiny stature of the race and go to work as a Scout. These same tiny proportions ridiculed by the larger races will allow you to sneak up on unsuspecting victims, allowing you to loot their belongings or sneaking up for the quick kill. Imagine the look of surprise on an 8 foot Ogre's face as they awake to a 30 pound gnome with a Meat Cleaver standing on their chest! Now, if that's not a reason to be a gnome I'm not sure what is!
Gnomes have no clear moral authority, therefore they can be either "good" or "evil" in the game, giving you great flexibility. So, if you have longed to live the evil life much like "Mini Me" in the Oscar caliber Austin Powers movies, now's your chance! Or if you prefer to mimic the life of Toadstool from the Super Mario games, and save Princesses around the realm……you can go that route as well. It is yours for the choosing. Personally, I hate Toadstool and his incessant high pitched squeals, so I would go the Evil Mini-Me route.
Like many races in EQ2, Gnomes are typically creatures of the underdark….meaning they hang out in caves and generally have no light by which to see. Therefore, gnomes are equipped with "ultravision" in EQ2, allowing them to shift their eyesight to a different spectrum at any moment which allows them to see perfectly well in pitch black areas.
