Undoubtedly the most intriguing race in all of EQ2 goes to the Rodent/Humanoid Ratonga Race. These creatures resemble the typical domestic rodent, yet are bipedal, upright creatures. In the realm of EQ2 they are extremely intelligent, and quite adept at the magical arts. Pretty much the exact opposite from the disgusting 4 legged rodents running around the sewers of the world. Oddly enough you’ll actually have the opportunity to murder many of your relatives in Sewer areas throughout Freeport. Being the compassionate person I am, I highly suggest all Ratonga players refrain from killing their distant relatives whenever possible.
The possibilites of being a Ratonga are endless, while certainly not of the fighter ilk, the Ratonga make excellent mages and appear extremely dashing in a hooded mage tunic. Seriously folks, come on…….a walking rat with a magical staff, fully decked out in a mage robe? You can’t get much better than that. This is the reason yours truly, MPS Guru (Glitch’s post but I penned this rambling, yet informative intro) will be starting off the game as a Ratonga Mage. I shall strike fear in the hearts of ogre, man, elf and other beasts all the while nipping on rations of muenster cheese stored in my backpack.
On a more serious note (OMG FREAKING BIPEDAL RAT MAGES!), the Ratonga are extremely agile and dodge attacks much easier than most races. Their strength in hand to hand combat is very low, therefore you’ll need to use this innate agility and highly acute mental abilities to sneak up on opponents as a Scout. Or you may prefer to channel your Ratongan Magical abilties as a Mage and blast any who oppose you into a bloody pulp from a distance. Folks, I assure you there is nothing more enlightening than being in the wild, decked out with a polearm staff and full mage clothing, spewing forth a variety of from your waggling rodent digits.
Ratongas also have an innate ability to sense movement much more acutely than any other race, this ability is a magical ability and can be enabled at any time, making a Ratonga’s effectiveness in the Scouting profession stand out above almost any other race.
Don’t let their generally friendly appearance fool you, Ratongas are an evil race in the realm of EQ2, and may only live in the filthy city of Freeport. But if you ask me, the pure coolness factor of being a powerful humanoid rat is well worth living in a run down city full of "scum and villainy" (thanks for the classic line Obi Wan).
